Noise Monitoring
Procedure
Iowa Environmental Services offers plant wide surveys to identify possible areas of overexposure to noise. The survey will show noise patterns throughout the facility with measurements at specific locations. The plant wide survey is conducted over a three day or three week time period to obtain an average of the noise levels.
Once the survey has identified possible areas of overexposure, employees working in these areas will be monitored using dosimeters. Personal dosimeters give a time-weighted average of the noise an employee is exposed to during a shift. A time-weighted average is the measurement used by OSHA in determining an employee’s exposure.
Written reports
Reports of the above surveys offer explanations of field procedures and shows data collected. It includes recommendations for noise controls when exposure levels exceed acceptable limits.
Programs and Training
Written programs for hearing conservation and training in the selection and use of proper protection equipment and work methods can also be provided.
