Lead

Paint
Lead poisoning occurs when children are exposed to too much lead. Lead containing paint can pose a health hazard if it becomes damaged.

Iowa Environmental Services (IES) has State of Iowa accredited Lead Inspector/Risk Assessors through the Department of Public Health. IES has quick access to AAS analysis for paint chips and wipes.

Iowa Environmental Services can provide the following services:
  • Conduct lead inspections.
  • Conduct lead hazard assessments.
  • Conduct lead hazard screenings.
  • Collect and analyze lead based paint samples.
  • Write project specifications for abatement.
  • Monitor removal projects for contractor effectiveness in containing lead.
  • Determine if an area is safe to reuse after lead paint removal.

Air
IES has a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and well qualified industrial hygienist (IH) to conduct employee exposure studies for construction projects as well as industrial settings.

Drinking Water
Lead levels in drinking water are of special concern because of the risk to children. Growing children tend to absorb more of the lead they consume than adults.
IES can assist you with testing in a manner which meets EPA requirements. Our services include:

  • Sample collection by an IH trained in the EPA protocols.
  • Analysis performed by a fully accredited laboratory.
  • A complete report showing sample locations, results and written explanations of the results and whether additional actions are required.
